‘American Idol’: Mass. resident to audition for judges after 5 years of trying
Sierra Harris has always dreamed of landing her big break on “American Idol.” On Sunday, fans of the show will get to watch her finally get that opportunity.
The Lexington resident has always grown up around music. From family karaoke to performing in musicals, Harris was determined to not just make music something she enjoyed. She wanted it to be her life.
“I’ve always felt it running through my blood,” she told MassLive. In her heart, the desire to pursue music “just felt right.”

Harris began posting singing videos to her social media pages, like TikTok, even attracting viral attention on a few occasions. She also writes her own music.
Her online presence finally got her noticed by “American Idol.” She told MassLive that she’s been auditioning for a chance to appear on the show for five years, hoping one day she’d get to stand in front of judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
Harris finally got to do so when she auditioned for them in Nashville.
“I’ve been waiting my entire life for this,” she said. “You get in there and its bright, your eyes widen and you’re like ‘woah, this is happening.’”
Perry even asked Harris to sing her own song “Firework.” Perry was impressed with her, Harris told MassLive.
That impression has stuck with Harris, as she’s reminded herself that a time like this would always come, no matter the obstacles that once stood in front of her.
“Take the no’s you get with a grain of salt because I feel like a lot of the times we get 10 no’s and then a yes. If I had stopped after every no I’ve gotten, I wouldn’t be here,” she said.
Harris is hoping to tour and release music. Recently, she released an original song titled “Not OK.” You can listen to it here.
To keep up with what Harris is up to, she regularly posts on her social media accounts. You can follow her Instagram here and her TikTok here.
“American Idol” viewers can watch Harris’ audition when it airs live on Sunday, where it will be revealed if she makes it through to the next round in Hollywood.
