For so many people during the pandemic, doing their jobs became harder and many had to get creative in order to make ends meet.

DJ Silver Knight is one of those people. When the pandemic hit, all of the Atlanta DJ’s gigs were canceled and his income was gone.

“My world, it was like a detonation button. It was just boom,” DJ Silver Knight told Channel 2′s Tom Jones.

In order to make ends meet, the DJ started streaming on Twitch, and became well-known around the world in countries like Japan, Brazil and the United Kingdom.

“Twitch is a game changer,” he said.

Fans love his Reggae and R&B-inspired virtual show, but if he doesn’t give screen time to the show’s mascot, Fuzzy Navels, a teddy bear.

“If I don’t have Fuzzy Navels dancing, it’s a problem. They gonna shut down the show,” he told Jones.

While he’s doing well from the comfort of his home now, a time when he didn’t know how he was going to eat or pay his bills isn’t such a distant memory.

“One day all of my gigs called me and was like people are getting sick. We’re not doing it,” the DJ said. “So I just said, ‘Lord, what we going to do? Show me.’”

Silver Knight began by DJ’ing parties on social media and Zoom, but quickly moved over to Twitch, where he blew up.

Many of his fans across the globe tell him that he helped them through the pandemic. He says the feeling is mutual.

He says the key is to have courage and keep going. Pivot if need be, but never give up.

“If you just let life keep you down and you stay down and don’t get back up that’s a problem. Getting back up is America strong,” he said.
