Brad Paisley breaks in new JBS stage to a sold-out crowd at 100th Greeley Stampede

Jun. 25—After a long wait, a lot of collaboration and a ton of work, the Greeley Stampede finally brought music fans of all ages the type of show they could only dream about.

Friday night, the Stampede broke in its new, 120-foot-by-80-foot stage with a performance by country music superstar Brad Paisley.

The stage has been in the works for three years and cost more than $2.5 million to build, according to Stampede organizers. The project was funded through a partnership between JBS, the city of Greeley and Weld County.

Opening for Paisley was country band Restless Road — a powerhouse trio comprised of Zach Beeken, Colton Pack and Garrett Nichols. The group released their first self-titled album in 2020, which includes the song "Take Me Home," featuring vocals by Kane Brown.

Friends Dylan Flores and Angela Jackson traveled nearly two hours from Torrington, Wyoming, to Greeley just to see Restless Road perform.

"All three are just super, super nice people, and we've met them quite a few times. They are super sweet and down to earth," Flores said. "Their music has helped us come closer together as friends."

"We came just for them," Jackson added.

The two friends even have matching tattoos on their forearms of song lyrics neatly printed in the artist's handwriting.

A little after 9 p.m., Weld County Commissioner and Big 97.9 radio personality Scott James and co-host Sadie Young, along with iHeartMedia radio personality Shawn Patrick, came out on stage to introduce the headliner, hyping up the crowd for Paisley's performance.

Dressed in all black and playing a sparkling silver guitar, Paisley ran out onto the stage under flashing lights and to screaming fans. As Paisley belted out his first song, a giant screen at the back of the stage flashed computer-generated graphics and videos.

The stage's catwalk allowed fans in the general admission areas to get a closer look at the artist as he stood at the end singing.

Paisley performed to a sold-out crowd of 13,000 people on Friday. While the arena's capacity is 15,000, Stampede organizers wanted to scale attendance numbers down a bit to see how the concert went with the new stage, said marketing coordinator Kevin McFarling.

The stage wasn't the only new addition to the concert series. A bar was set up on the floor of the arena, and "concert pods" featured four stools and a table sectioned off from general admission, creating small, semi-private areas for audience members.

The pods seemed to be a hit with music fans and quickly sold out once tickets for the pods were posted online, McFarling said.

Eric McClure, 31, and his wife, Breanna McClure, 27, drove up from Parker to attend the concert and spend the day checking out the Stampede.

"I am really impressed with the stage and sound system. It's awesome," Eric McClure said. "I came to the Greeley Stampede about seven years ago, and it was nothing like this. It was a smaller stage, and the sound wasn't as clear."

"I'd totally come back for another concert," Breanna McClure said.
