The countdown is on for Bun B of UGK and 8Ball & MJG to take the stage in the Magic City.

Birmingham may not have been chosen as the host city for the Verzuz battle between the legendary rap duos in May, but the greats will come together again this evening at Avondale Brewing.

General admission, standing room-only tickets are still available for the show on Ticketmaster for $95.00 (VIP pit and table tickets are sold out). After fees, the total cost for a ticket is $104.85.

Doors for the show open at 7:30 p.m. The show starts at 9:00.

When fans of the UGK and 8Ball and MJG were calling for the Southern rap icons to do a Veruz battle, Bun B initially mentioned Birmingham as a possible host city for the event. In an April interview for the podcast “Nothing Beats Experience,” Bun B and hip-hop artist and music executive Smooth Vega discussed the possible location of the battle, saying it would have to be in a “neutral ground.”

“It can’t be in Houston. I get home field advantage. It can’t be in Memphis. They get home field advantage. So, it’s probably going to have to be in Atlanta or Birmingham or somewhere like that,” said Bun B.

“Birmingham to me would be an amazing place to do something like Verzuz. Something so big for the culture never goes to a community like that,” he continued. “But at the same time, I know that there is a certain level of presentation that goes into Verzuz and the way that they do it. And they are under new ownership now. So, there’s a lot of different people that have to be considered when they present it.”

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin responded to the interview on social media with an open invitation for Verzuz to come to the city.

“Yo @BunBTrillOG, we hear you OG. The doors of the church are open for you here in Birmingham. UGK vs 8ball & MJG – pull up and let’s make history, @verzuzonline. #BringVerzuztoBham,” Woodfin tweeted.

People cosigned the invite, tweeting “Come to talk to us @BunBTrillOG” on Twitter and commenting “Make it happen, Mayor Woodfin!” on Facebook.

As the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

In May, on Instagram live, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, Bun B and 8 Ball & MJG announced a Verzuz battle and talked about hosting the event in Atlanta. Later that night, the official announcement on Instagram listed Atlanta as the battle’s host city.

The night of the Verzuz, viewers on Facebook and Twitter ridiculed the crowd’s lack of energy.

Birmingham, some said, would have been the better option.

Birmingham is a frequent concert stop for both Bun B and 8-Ball & MJG. Tonight, fans in Birmingham will have their rightful chance to showcase their love for the Southern rap icons in one show.
