Rolling Stone, Billboard spotlight Alabama rapper Chika’s new single logo 2/20/2020 By Lawrence Specker,

Alabama rapper Chika’s brand-new single, “Industry Games,” has gotten immediate notice from heavyweight music-industry news outlets including Rolling Stone and Billboard.

The Montgomery native released the song Tuesday. Compared to two singles she put out in late 2019 -- the uplifting “High Rises,” and the love-smitten “I Can’t Explain” -- her latest is a tense and even angry tune about overcoming detractors.

“Chika doesn't suffer fools; with her raw, hard-hitting lyrics, the up-and-coming rapper has made a name for herself as one of the most honest stars in music today. Her latest track only further cements that status, wrote Billboard’s Stephen Daw. Daw described “Industry Games” as a blink-and-you'll-miss-it track where she re-establishes herself as the MC to beat with blunt lyrics and expert delivery.”

Rolling Stone’s John Blistein described the track as featuring “a clattering mix of drums and bass, balanced by a melody of synth pings that echo with a queasy edge. Chika rides this beat with aplomb, unraveling two verses of exceptionally hard bars before deftly switching into a dramatic sing-song as she rebuffs anyone trying to bounce her from her perch: ‘I can hear the snakes, they hissing, trying to break my mission/’Cause I know who I’m about to be.’”

“Industry Games” is believed to be the title track of a forthcoming EP that will be Chika’s first commercial release since signing a deal with Warner Records in 2019. The rapper, whose full name is Jane Chika Oranica, said Wednesday on social media that the project’s release date is March 13.
