A middle school student at Chartiers Valley died after collapsing during a basketball practice on Wednesday evening.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the male as 12-year-old Jayson Kidd.

He collapsed shortly after 5 p.m. and was pronounced dead shortly before 6:30 p.m. at a local hospital.

In a statement, the district’s Superintendent Dr. Johannah Vanatta said, “the Chartiers Valley family is saddened by a tragic incident that occurred at the Middle school.”

“I am confident that our community will rise in support,” added Vanatta. “My thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers, and all of those affected by this tragedy.”

A crisis team will be available to students and stuff at the Middle School Thursday.
