UPDATE: Man charged with animal cruelty after forcing dog to jump with 10-pound weight on its neck, cops say

Two South Jersey residents were charged with animal cruelty this week after a SWAT team served a warrant at their home.

Gloucester County SWAT served a “knock and announce” search warrant at a home in the 1600 block of Atkins Avenue in West Deptford Township around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to township police.

The warrant stemmed from an animal cruelty investigation conducted by West Deptford police, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and county animal control.

Felipe Echevarria, 33, and Brittany M. Morgan, 34, both of West Deptford, were charged with animal cruelty violations and released on summonses pending future court appearances, police said.

Several dogs were removed from the home and are being temporarily housed at the Gloucester County Animal Shelter.

Authorities declined to release additional details about the case.
