MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis police say two teens were taken to the hospital after a shooting Downtown on Oct. 3.

A 16-year-old and 15-year-old were rushed to the hospital and have since been released.

Police say the 15-year-old was shot in the chest and was transported in critical condition.

The shooting happened just before 5:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Vance Avenue.

Preliminary information shows the suspect(s) responsible were occupying a white Nissan sedan. A photo of that vehicle has been released by MPD.

A witness who wanted to remain anonymous told Action News 5 they were picking up their grandchild from Streets Ministries, a local organization serving Memphis youth, when it all happened.

“Something was telling me something wasn’t right. I was just uneasy,” the witness said. “I cannot go back down there and sit down. I don’t feel safe.”

The witness also says their car was hit twice, the spray of bullets shattering the driver’s side window and another bullet lodged in the trunk of the car.

”I’m just on the side and hear about eight shots and you can hear the wind like ‘pop pop pop,’” the witness said. “Next thing you know, I got glass and debris on my face and on my shoulder.”

Police say surveillance video shows the teens who were shot made eye contact with a person inside the sedan.

The video shows that as the two victims walked toward the building, the driver drove down the street, turned around, and began firing.

According to a police report, one of the teens told police he did not know who shot at him and his friends.
