A man in his 40s was crossing the street when he was run over by a pickup truck on Wednesday, March 29.

A man in his 40s, whose identify has not been released, is dead after being run over while crossing the street at Culebra and 36th Street around midnight Wednesday, March 29, according to officials with the San Antonio Police Department.

The man was crossing the street and a single vehicle had stopped to allow him to pass when the driver of a white pickup truck ran the man over in the next lane. The driver of the truck failed to render aid to the man and fled the scene, according to the police.

Members of the San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Fire Department, and EMS responded to the call, but the man was pronounced dead on arrival by emergency medical service personnel. Officials said the man lived close by and several family members showed up to the scene. Investigation into the incident was handed over to the technical investigation division (TID) and the case is ongoing.

The driver of the white pickup truck later reportedly returned to the scene. Officers arrested the driver and they are being charged with fleeing the scene of an accident and failing to render aid resulting in death. The pickup has since been processed to gather evidence, and the driver is refusing to cooperate with the investigation, San Antonio Police Officer Ricardo Guzman told MySA.

This latest pedestrian hit-and-run comes after another occurred on Saturday, March 25. A Tesla was driving around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck and killed a 36-year-old San Antonio man while on a crosswalk near S. Alamo Street and Probandt Street. The driver of the Tesla, who has been identified as 29-year-old Robert Castillo according to court records, crashed the car into the side of a building while trying to flee from the scene.
