At least six people were injured after a shooting Tuesday morning near a Memphis, Tennessee, hospital, officials said.

Officers responded to shooting victims arriving at the Methodist North Hospital at around 12:42 a.m., the Memphis Police Department said in a statement Tuesday.

At least six victims were located, all of whom had allegedly been shot by suspects in a black SUV. The shooting was believed to have occurred in the area of New Covington Pike and Austin Peay Highway, near the hospital, according to police.

Two victims were transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition, with one listed in non-critical condition as of Tuesday morning, police said. Their ages were unknown.

The other four victims were transferred to Regional One Health hospital in critical condition, with one of those victims listed in non-critical condition as of Tuesday morning.

Three of the victims involved were being detained as they were in possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.

Police did not provide any information on suspects in the shooting itself or on any potential motives. They said an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

A hospital spokesperson confirmed the incident in a statement. They said no hospital employees were harmed.

The spokesperson said workers had guided patients away from an emergency room waiting area so that the hospital's security team and police officers could respond to the incident.

They said the hospital was working with local law enforcement investigating the shooting.

In video of the scene, a car outside the hospital could be seen riddled with what appeared to be bullet holes and smashed window glass.

CBS affiliate WREG reported that police had also taped off a scene at a gas station several miles away. A semiautomatic rifle could be seen on the ground next to one of the pumps, according to the outlet. NBC News could not immediately confirm the station’s reporting.

WREG also reported that the hospital had been on lockdown earlier in the day while treating multiple victims. Asked to confirm that, the hospital spokesperson said the facility was not on lockdown as of Tuesday morning.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
