Providence police provided new information Thursday about a child who was hit by a car in Providence.

Police said an 8-year-old girl and her mother were crossing Randall Street on Wednesday night when a car did not stop for them.

The girl went to Hasbro Children's Hospital with a cut on her forehead. The woman was not hurt.

Police said they were searching for a dark-colored "GM, Chevy or Buick type vehicle."

Investigators said visibility was poor at the time of the crash and that the roads were wet.

The victim was initially reported as a 7-year-old boy.
