Officer-involved shooting in Glendale near 59th and Northern avenues

GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- A man has been rushed to the hospital after getting shot by officers in Glendale Monday morning.

According to Glendale police, officers responded to the area of 59th and Northern avenues around 8 a.m. for reports of a burglary in progress. Officers found the suspect in the garage, and the man told officers, "they would have to shoot him to take him into custody."

The man barricaded himself inside the detached garage with a refrigerator and then barricaded himself in a car. Just after 10 a.m. Police say SWAT teams tried to break into the car, but the man jumped out and charged officers while holding power tools. As SWAT members retreated, one of the SWAT officers shot the suspect. The suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.
