The cause of death for Neena Pacholke, the Wisconsin news anchor and former University of South Florida women’s basketball player, has been confirmed by local authorities.

The department said it will not release any additional information.

“The Wausau Police Department and Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office extend their condolences to the family, friends, and the many impacted by Pacholke’s death. … September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and we, along with Pacholke’s family, wish to bring awareness to this stigmatized and often taboo, topic,” police stated.

“Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background.”

Pacholke’s sister, Kaitlynn, announced the tragic loss on Instagram Monday.

“I don’t have the words,” said Kaitlynn. “My baby sister is gone. My 27 year long best friend. It doesn’t feel real. I just want to wake up from this living nightmare.”

Kaitlynn said, prior to the release of Pacholke’s cause of death: “For now, I know she’s not in pain anymore and I am thankful for that.”
