Chicago crime, social problems spilling into west suburb, lawmaker says
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Leaders in Forest Park say they have a plan for dealing with what they claim is an influx of criminals, homeless people and drug addicts from the city of Chicago.
State Rep. La Shawn Ford, a Democrat whose district includes Forest Park, says many criminals, the homeless and drug users come to the western suburb on the CTA from Chicago.
Forest Park police are getting help from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department in dealing with related safety and crime issues, he said.
Ford says community groups and outreach organizations have also stepped up to help Forest Park assist the rising numbers of homeless people and drug addicts.
He also called on Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to do more to address the issues of crime on the CTA, as well as homelessness and substance abuse in the city, in part to help reduce the spill-over into communities such as Forest Park.
