A grand jury has indicted Mario Palma-Sanchez on charges of aggravated arson related to two fires that broke out on Highland Avenue near Lexington Avenue in Clifton last year.

Palma-Sanchez was arrested weeks after the March 2020 fires, which displaced one family and threatened another home, though no one was injured, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities accused Palma-Sanchez, 25, of Clifton, of igniting a trash can on Highland Avenue, claiming the fire spread to a nearby home.

Investigators became suspicious when a separate fire broke out down the street on the same night, and they arrested Palma-Sanchez that April.

If convicted, he could face five to 10 years in prison.
