Corpus Christi police officers arrested a 17-year-old boy who is suspected in the death of a 14-year-old girl on South Alameda Street on Friday morning. 

About 2:50 a.m., officers were called to an apartment complex in the 5400 block of South Alameda in reference to a shooting, Senior Officer Travis Pace said. 

The girl died from her injuries at the scene, a news release from the department said.

Officers identified and located the suspect, Jose Garcia, around 8 a.m. on Friday.

He was transported to police headquarters in downtown to be interviews by detectives. Around 6 p.m. he was taken to the City Detention Center and processed on a Capital Murder charge, the release said.

CCPD said the shooting was not a random act of violence and the parties involved were known to each other.
