FAIRAX, VA — A Washington, D.C. man died as the result of an early morning crash Thursday on I-495 in Fairfax County, according to a release from the Virginia State Police.

VSP troopers responded around 2:59 a.m., for the report of a crash in the northbound access lanes of I-495 near Route 50.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2020 Volkswagen Golf traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into the rear-end of a dump truck, according to VSP.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Elson M. Turcios-Erroa, 24, of Washington, D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene. Rescue units transported a 26-year-old male passenger of the car to a nearby hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Neither the driver nor passenger of the Volkswagen were wearing their seatbelts.

A 41-year-old Manassas man driving the truck suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Police say he was wearing his seatbelt.
