DNA analysis confirms human remains are of missing Savannah woman

The Savannah Police Dept. (SPD) said Thursday that a DNA analysis has determined that human remains found off New Hampstead Parkway in March are those of 24-year-old Melanie Steele.

Police said Steele was originally reported missing in September 2019.

SPD officials said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the SPD's Special Victims Unit at 912-651-6742.
