Felon Arrested For Alleged Possession of Guns and Narcotics

A 43-year-old convicted felon was arrested Wednesday for alleged possession of a gun and narcotics.

Ty Andrew Welty of Coachella was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and for being in possession of a stolen firearm and narcotics while armed, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies from the Coachella Community Action Team searched a residence in the 86-200 block of Pinot Noir Lane in Coachella on Wednesday morning, where they allegedly found powder methamphetamine, a stolen handgun, powder fentanyl, approximately 300 fentanyl pills and items indicative of narcotics sales.

According to the sheriff’s department, another suspect who was not present during the search will also be charged.

The Southern Coachella Valley Community Service District Team, La Quinta Special Enforcement Team and California Highway Patrol assisted with the search warrant.

Welty was booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center and was being held in lieu of $25,000.

According to court records, he previously pleaded guilty to felony counts of possessing an undetectable firearm and burglary.
