Figure skater Karen Chen hopes to become the next Olympic champion from Fremont
Something is in the water — or the ice — in Fremont. Thirty years ago, figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi put the Northern California town on the map when she won gold at the 1992 Olympics. Now, Karen Chen hopes to become the next Fremont Olympic champ. At 22, Chen is heading into her second Olympics in Beijing. She considered retirement after finishing 11th at the 2018 Olympics in South Korea, but now credits maturity and Yamaguchi for this second shot at gold.
