Florida deputies arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing a semi-truck worth $280,000.

On Monday, a caller in Bunnell contacted authorities after witnessing two people spray-painting a Peterbilt semi-tractor at the back corner of a parking lot, according to a press release from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived, Dayanly Cutino Gonzalez and Reinier Lazaro Perez began running southbound on I-95.

Officials caught Gonzalez without incident. Two hours later, they caught Perez hiding in the woods, according to the press release.

Investigators discovered they stole the tractor earlier from Columbia County. The initial color was pink before they were caught spray painting it red.

“Thanks to another concerned citizen calling after ‘See Something, Say Something,’ our deputies were able to catch two thieves and recover a stolen semi and return it to its rightful owner,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “They also get selected as the dumb criminals of the week award for thinking they could spray paint a semi in a hotel parking lot and not be noticed!”

Officials arrested Gonzalez for resisting without violence, grand theft of a motor vehicle and felony criminal mischief.

She was released after posting a $13,500 bond.

They arrested Perez for the same charges and included two more: possession of a removed vehicle identification number and possession of fentanyl.
