NEWBURGH, NY — Lamont Williams, who was accused of shooting and killing a Newburgh man and wounding a 5-year-old child, was indicted on a murder charge by an Orange County grand jury.

Williams is awaiting extradition to New York after being arrested in North Carolina, Mid Hudson News reported.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said that, hopefully, there will be justice for the victim and his family.

Authorities said Williams shot and killed Daquan Corbett, 29, of Newburgh, shortly after 7 p.m. Sept. 29 on Washington Street in Newburgh.

A 5-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle was shot in the leg as well.

Corbett and the child were taken to the hospital, where Corbett died of his injuries. The child was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.

Williams was tracked to North Carolina and was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service.
