Gurpreet Singh's attorneys ask to withdraw from the case ahead of quadruple murder retrial
BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - Gurpreet Singh will need new attorneys when he is likely tried for a second time for the murders of his wife and three of her family members in West Chester.
The jury in his first trial was hung 11-1 for a conviction for the 2019 murders.
Late last week, attorneys Charles Rittgers, Neal Schuett and J.R. Bernans filed a motion to withdraw as Singh's attorneys.
In that filing, they note that Singh has been held in jail without bond since his 2019 arrest and has been unable to work. Singh has now been declared indigent by the court and can't afford to pay for the attorneys.
According to the motion, Schuett said he visited Singh in jail and told him about the motion to withdraw. Schuett said he had no objection.
Singh will be back in court Tuesday.
