House Fire Kills 2 Women in DC's Takoma Neighborhood: Officials

Two women pulled from a burning home in Northwest Washington, D.C., early Tuesday have died, firefighters say.
D.C. Fire and EMS said crews responded about 3 a.m. to a two-story detached home in the 7200 block of 8th Street NW.
The two women are a mother, in her 80s and daughter, in her 60s. They were rescued from the second floor by the large rescue crew and taken to a hospital where they later died from their “very critical” injuries, fire officials said.
Firefighters put out the flames, which were confined to the upper floor, officials said.
Jeanni Jensen, a neighbor who lives across the street from the home that caught fire, described the sight.
"There was a lot of smoke in two different columns coming out of the top of the house," she said. "Two firefighters had made it onto the roof at that point... A lot of chaos, they were clearly trying to get in as quickly as they could."
Investigators have said the cause of the blaze was electrical.
Firefighters visited neighbors' homes later on Tuesday to ensure they have working smoke detectors and share fire safety information.
