Houston police and a 5-year-old boy's family are asking for the public's help to find whoever knows what happened to the little boy just before he died.
Authorities say that around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, David Niwamanya was playing on the playground in the 6100 block of Glenmont. David struggled to make it back to his home, and once he did, he was helped inside, where he fell unconscious.
David was rushed to the hospital, where he died. His death was due to inflicted trauma, officials say.
Houston police would not elaborate on his injuries but said they are "unique" and will be used as a tool in their investigation.
An autopsy was performed on David, but results have not been released.
Investigators said they are not sure if the child had an accident, if someone else was involved in an accident that led to his injuries or if he was assaulted.
They are asking for witnesses or people with information to come forward.
