Indiana's first surrendered baby of 2023 placed in Elkhart Baby Box
Indiana's first surrendered baby of 2023 was found in a Safe Haven Baby Box in Elkhart.
The baby was surrendered sometime last week, though it has not been released on what day, at the Cleveland Township fire station.
This is just west of the airport.
Officials state a second baby was surrendered at an Indianapolis fire station less than 48 hours later.

Indiana has a total of 96 Safe Haven Baby Boxes installed across the state, and Michiana is home to nine:
- Franciscan Health, Michigan City

- South Bend Fire Station 11
- Mishawaka Fire Station 3
- Cleveland Township Fire Station, Elkhart
- Plymouth Fire Department
- Rochester Fire Department
- Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory

Officials say the United States is already on track to break the record of surrendered babies this year after both Kentucky and Florida had one baby surrendered each.
Last year, eight newborns were surrendered through the Safe Haven Baby Boxes.
