DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A top prosecutor in the Dallas County District Attorney's office was involved in a suspected drunk driving accident just hours before he was found dead in his home, according to sources.

The death of Justin Lord has, so far, been unexplained as authorities continue to investigate.

A news release from the Dallas County District Attorney's office, released Saturday, says "On Saturday, August 31, 2019, Dallas County Assistant District Attorney, Justin Lord was found deceased at his home."

The cause of death was not immediately available. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's office said Sunday that it had no record of the case. Part of the city where Lord lived is in Rockwall County, however a Justice of the Peace said Lord's home was not in their jurisdiction, so they had no record of the case.

Sources say in the hours before his accident and death, the prosecutor attended a party for another attorney who was leaving public service and going into the private sector.

According to multiple law enforcement sources, Lord had been involved in a single car accident early Saturday morning in the Ellis County town of Palmer. The sources say Lord had driven off the road and his car was stuck in a ditch. The sources say Lord suffered a head injury from the wreck and was taken to a hospital. Because of evidence of alcohol, a blood sample was drawn. The blood draw is documented with a case number.

The sources say Lord was released to a family member without being booked into jail.

A short while later he was discovered dead.

The sources say an investigator from the Dallas County DA's office took custody off all the files from Palmer Police. A spokeswoman said District Attorney John Creuzot declined comment and referred KRLD News back to the Saturday news release. The news release did not address any of the questions regarding the accident, knowledge of the party or the custody of the records.

Lord was considered one of the top prosecutors handling some of the bigger cases. Most recently he was involved in the murder case against Brenda Delgado, the mastermind of the murder of Uptown Dallas Dentist Doctor Kendra Hatcher.
