The Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said the case was still under investigation and charges are still possible.
In D.C., there is no 'stand your ground' law, with current law allowing non-deadly force to protect property. Deadly force may only be used if there is a reasonable fear for your own life or the life of others.
Long said the family and members of the community are hoping for a development in this case soon.
"It would be a little relief. If they go get this man right now, it's terrible how everything went and started, but at least you're holding him innocent until proven guilty," Long said. "These young kids are not going to respect the law or respect nobody because they saw this right here. They're going to do what they're going to do. They're going to say, 'This man just killed one of us. He ain't go to jail.''
