Authorities in Las Vegas have arrested a Southern Nevada defense attorney whose disciplinary record is clouded by suspensions and a felony conviction related to a gambling addiction.

An arrest warrant for Douglas Crawford, 67, was issued early Thursday morning, according to court records. He faces five counts of open or gross lewdness, the records show, but the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has not released further details.

Crawford, who runs a private law firm in downtown Las Vegas, has been a licensed attorney in Nevada since September 1985.

In 2007, the State Bar of Nevada temporarily barred Crawford from practicing law after he "misappropriated over $100,000 in client funds," according to an order of suspension.

"Additionally," the order reads, "he has attempted to prevent clients from complaining to the state bar."

Crawford pleaded guilty to two felony counts of theft in 2011. Following his conviction, the state bar suspended Crawford for five years, citing "numerous instances" in which he misappropriated funds "to support his gambling addiction."

He was reinstated to practice law by the Nevada Supreme Court in June 2015.

As of Thursday evening, Crawford was being held without bail in connection with the lewdness case at a downtown Las Vegas jail located about a half-mile from his law office. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday morning.

LVMPD is asking anyone with information about Crawford to contact detectives at 702-828-3251.
