The massive police presence outside Moe and Curly's Pub on Sunday reveals just part of the story, but the pub's bartender Kevin Leslie recounts the moments leading up to the gunfire.

“I walked by somebody in the hallway and I heard, ‘They'll beef outside,’ that was the quote I heard,” said Leslie.

Leslie said he stepped outside with a coworker to make sure nothing violent was happening and unfortunately something did.

“All of a sudden I heard 'pop', it was the first or second pop when I felt my pants move,” said Leslie. “I looked down and I realized, ‘Wait that hit me.’ I ran inside and said, ‘They’re shooting get back, call 911.’”

Police said a 24-year-old man was also shot and is in stable condition and a 21-year-old man hit by a car during the chaos later died.

As for Leslie, he’s currently on crutches. It’s yet another setback after a tough 2020 for him and many other restaurant employees.

“People are just finally starting to come back and get to where we're able to pay our bills by ourselves,” said Leslie. “This is definitely going to be a setback.”

As temperatures warm up, vaccines roll out and businesses recoup, Leslie is asking the public to simply stop the violence.

“If you went out to shoot someone that night, go to the range,” said Leslie. “Figure anything out, but don’t take someone's life.”
