The sheriff's office said it got a call Wednesday around 10:55 p.m. from a 33-year-old man who said his vehicle was stolen. Deputies met him at Hutchinson Road and South George Washington Boulevard, roughly 10 miles southwest of Yuba City.

When deputies got there, they learned the man was attacked and burned, the sheriff's office said. Medical personnel transported him to a hospital. After interviewing the man, deputies learned he was flagged down by a person on the side of the road standing by a black SUV. The man got out of the car to ask her if she needed help, but that's when two men got out of the SUV.

The sheriff's office said one of the men had what looked like a gun, and the other had a knife. The two men zip-tied his legs, poured gasoline on him and lit him on fire before stealing his wallet and vehicle.

He was left on the side of the road and managed to put out the fire by rolling on the ground, the sheriff's office said.

He was later able to call the sheriff's office.

Deputies found his vehicle several miles away, but the sheriff's office did not specify where exactly it was found. A replica firearm was also found where the vehicle was at.

No information on the alleged carjackers was released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 530-822-2310.
