A man drowned Thursday afternoon at Pensacola Beach, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

ECSO spokeswoman Amber Southard told the News Journal that deputies were dispatched at about 2 p.m. to the incident near the 500 block of Fort Pickens Road.

By the time deputies arrived at the beach, lifeguards had pulled the man out of the water and the man was already deceased, she said.

Authorities had not released the man's identity as of 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
