An El Paso man is recovering after a dog attacked him in his own front yard, leaving him with gashes all over his arm.

Eddie Medina was walking his dog when he said a pitbull charged towards him and left him with injuries so severe, he said he could barely move his arm.

A video recording shows the moments Medina fought off the dog and saved his puppy from an attack.

“I was really scared. The pit bull lunged at me trying to get to my dog and that’s when he got me right here in my arm,” Medina said.

Medina was treated for his injuries at a hospital.

“When I got there, I found out that the dog doesn’t have his vaccinations so I had to go get rabies shots four times,” Medina said.

El Paso Animal Services tracked down the pit bull’s owner and cited them for the incident. A spokesperson for El Paso Animal Services said the owners could face up to a $2,000 fine. However, they said in any situation, if an attack like this were to happen again, the dog would not be euthanized.

“These people that own this dog need to be responsible before it happens again,” Medina said.

The pit bull was quarantined for 10 days and has since been reunited with its owner.
