Man shot, dies after attempted burglary in Warrensburg, police say

One person is dead after an attempted burglary led to a shooting in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Police officers responded to an apartment on East Hunt Street just before 11 p.m. Saturday. Moments later, they got a call about a shooting victim at a nearby gas station.

Police said they talked with the man who lives at the apartment, who said two people tried to break in and that one of them was armed. The man said he fired his own gun at the men and they ran off.

Police found a man who was shot at Jerry's One Stop at 712 South Maguire. He's been identified as 23-year-old Cameron N. Branch. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Officers found a gun that they say one of the break-in suspects left at the apartment. Police say the man who shot Branch was taken into custody, but was later released pending further investigation.
