A man is dead after he was struck by a coach bus outside of a terminal at Boston Logan International Airport, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

Vishwachand Kolla, 47, of Lexington, was struck just before 5 p.m. Monday on the Terminal B Lower Roadway at the airport.

Kolla was at the airport to pick up a friend and was parked curbside at the Terminal B lower (arrivals) level. He suffered severe injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said preliminary investigation indicates that Kolla was standing on the driver's side of his Acura SUV while, simultaneously, a Dartmouth Transportation motor coach was traveling on the roadway. The middle of the bus made contact with Kolla and dragged him along the driver's side of his SUV, police said.

A bystander -- an off-duty nurse -- performed attempted lifesaving measures along with responding personnel from the Massport Fire Department and Boston EMS, however Kolla was pronounced dead on-scene by a paramedic.

The driver of the motor coach, a 54-year-old woman, declined medical treatment, police said.

The motor coach is owned by the Dartmouth Transportation Company of Concord, New Hampshire.

"Our deepest sympathies are with everyone impacted by this evening’s incident at Logan Airport," Dartmouth Coach said in a statement. "We’re working in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police and Massport to gather further information."

A WCVB camera spotted a Dartmouth Coach bus parked outside Terminal B that was surrounded by police tape. A Boston Emergency Medical Services ambulance and a Massachusetts State Police cruiser were parked near the bus.

A parked Acura SUV with a broken front driver's side window was also behind the police tape and examined by investigators.

NewsCenter 5's Peter Eliopoulos has learned there were people onboard the Dartmouth Coach bus at the time of the crash. Those passengers were moved to a different bus.

For a time, airline passengers who were set to receive their luggage from the Terminal B baggage claim were instead directed to receive their bags from the Terminal C baggage claim.

The crash investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by Troop F of the Massachusetts State Police, the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the MSP Crime Scene Services Section, the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section and the state police detective unit assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
