Update: Police on Saturday identified the man killed as Antonio Grisham, 40.

Original story: One person is dead after a house fire and shooting were reported at an East Nashville home early Thursday morning, officials said.

Nashville Fire Department crews responded to a duplex in the 800 block of West Sharpe Avenue around 2:30 a.m., according to spokesperson Kendra Loney.

Crews found smoke and flames coming from a bedroom window and were looking for two residents that a 911 caller said lived there, according to Loney. They quickly found and contained the fire to one bedroom, which was empty.

The victim, believed to be a 40-year-old man, was "shot in the head prior to someone apparently setting the residence on fire," Metro Nashville Police said Thursday evening.

The home is now a crime scene and a joint investigation is underway with NFD and the Metro Nashville Police Department, Loney said.

The victim's identity will be released once it is confirmed by the medical examiner, MNPD said.
