A York woman admitted to police she snorted heroin and took a pill before she drove her 6-year-old son on Interstate 83 in Springfield Township on Tuesday night, according to charging documents.

Kristina Michelle Archer-Burton, 33, of the 700 block of Terrace Road, faces charges of DUI, endangering the welfare of children, duty of driver approaching emergency vehicle, maximum speed limits and operation of vehicle without official certificate of inspection.

She could not be reached for comment on Monday.

Just before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Pennsylvania State Police clocked Archer-Burton, who was driving a white 2007 Chevrolet Aveo, at 78 mph in a 55 mph zone, documents state.

But when police tried to pull her over, she went to the left berm, which abuts the middle jersey barrier, and not the right berm. A trooper then had to direct her to the proper berm, according to documents.

Looking at Archer-Burton, police could see that her pupils were "non-existent" and that she was nervous, sweating and spoke in a slurred manner, documents state.

Archer-Burton at first denied any drug use, then said she had a prior DUI for pill use, documents state.

"She then admitted she took an unknown pill earlier that she had found in her purse," documents state.

Searching Archer-Burton's car, police found 11 "trash cans" — small plastic pop-top holders — and four blue wax bags of heroin, according to documents.

"The accused (Archer-Burton) then admitted to snorting half a trashcan prior to driving about an hour earlier," documents state.

Among the occupants in the vehicle were Archer-Burton's 6-year-old son, documents state.
