The Somerville fire chief said the second and third floors had the most fire damage and that the first floor had extensive water damage.
The neighbor we spoke to called 911 shortly after it started and said there was someone inside at the time.
"A woman came to the window in the upstairs unit that was on fire," the neighbor said. "She was in there and was not aware of the fire at the time because it was in the back of the house. We could see her at the front of the house."
A resident who lived in the building said there were three units and five residents living there, and he's thankful no one, including his daughter, were hurt.
"She's freaked out and I'm freaked out," the resident said. "My whole livelihood is in that apartment. I'm glad she's safe. I'm glad everybody got out."
The homes in the area are very close together, but the fire damage appeared to be isolated to the home at 34 Walker Street.
Neighboring homes had some siding that melted but appeared to be no serious damage.
The fire chief said he does not believe that the cause of the fire is suspicious, but is continuing to investigate.
