Omaha police Chief Todd Schmaderer said the shooter was shot and killed by officers.

"There's evidence to suggest, with shell casings, that he entered the Target and was firing rounds," Schmaderer said.

Schmaderer said no civilians were hurt during the incident.

Omaha police said preliminary investigation indicates the suspect, a white man, fired multiple rounds from an AR-15 style rifle.

Law enforcement told KETV NewsWatch 7 that the suspect is a white man in his early 30s.

A review of police scanner traffic indicates the suspected shooter was dead six minutes after the first call for help.

There is no indication at this time the identity of the gunman, and what relationship, if any, he had to the store.

Omaha police said detectives and forensic technicians are finishing their examining of the scene Tuesday night.

They also said the parking lot is now open to people asked to leave their vehicles for the purpose of the investigation outside the store.

Target will be assisting with returning personal property to shoppers at the store Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m. The west entrance will be open, and you'll need to validate your property — there will be no shopping allowed.

OPD said Target will remain closed until Thursday.

The incident is still under investigation.
