Officials ID man, 60, killed when car crashes into Boston triple-decker
A resident was killed and another man injured Sunday when a car crashed into the front of a three-decker home in Boston's Roslindale neighborhood.
The crash happened at about 5 p.m. Sunday at 3968 Washington St. in Roslindale.
Sign up for our NewslettersA spokesperson for the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said Egidio D'Antuony, 60, of 3968 Washington St., the location of the crash, was killed. The second victim, who was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, is a 62-year-old man.
Neighbors said D'Antuony enjoyed sitting on his front porch waving at passersby.
"He would just be sitting there having a coffee or two with his wife. Obviously, he was just enjoying the day. That was his typical routine," neighbor Stephanie Benitez said.
"He just waves at people. He's a friendly guy," witness Kevin Monteiro said.
Monteiro, a carpenter, was working on a house a few doors down Sunday evening when he heard a crash and saw a silver Honda sedan that had apparently sideswiped a parked minivan before it slammed into the porch.
"His wife was actually looking for him afterwards and didn't realize it was him underneath the car," Monteiro said.
Another man who was walking on the sidewalk was hit and injured.
Neighbors said speeding is a problem on the stretch of Washington Street. It has dedicated bus lanes on each side, but only during weekday commute hours. At the time of the crash, on a Sunday evening, those lanes were available for parking.
"I mean, honestly, you have a sidewalk, you have a fence, you have a deck on top of that. Like, you would never have imagined that would happen," Benitez said.
Friends said D'Antuony went by Gino and had worked for years for the Boston Parks Department.
The crash remains under investigation. A police report indicates alcohol was not a factor in the crash, nor was any handheld device, but it gives no indication about why the driver apparently lost control.
Anyone with any information about the crash or has images or video of the incident is asked to contact Homicide Detectives from the Fatal Collision Investigation Team at 617-343-4470.
