Otsego County man arrested on felony drug and weapon charges in Johnson City

An Otsego County man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a traffic stop this week in Johnson City.

Around 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, officers from the Johnson City Police Community Action Team were on patrol and reportedly observed a vehicle driving erratically on Route 201.

Officers pulled over the driver, identified as 31-year-old Mark A. Mongillo of Unadilla.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered numerous items in Mongillo's possession, police said, including a loaded Glock 9-mm semiautomatic handgun with the serial number defaced.

Mongillo also possessed three plastic bags containing a total of 1.4 pounds of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, including drug packaging materials, a glass pipe, and a digital scale, and nearly $4,500 in cash, according to police.

As a result of the investigation, police charged Mongillo with second-degree, third-degree and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and second-degree and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies.

Mongillo was also charged with second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors, along with a vehicle and traffic violation.

Mongillo was arraigned on the charges in Central Arraignment Court and committed to the Broome County Jail.
