Miramar Police want to question a South Carolina woman about her possible involvement in a hit-and-run crash that left 35-year-old Silvio Jose Ortega Martinez lying dead in the road early Sunday morning.

Janae Shaniece Lewis, 28, of North Augusta, S.C., is the registered owner of the white Chevy Malibu that struck Ortega Martinez as he was crossing Pembroke Road, according to police.

Lewis was seen on surveillance video at a residential building getting out of the car, which appeared to have a shattered windshield and damage to the front driver’s side, police said.

Police found the car in North Augusta, where Lewis is from, but she has been fleeing from authorities. Lewis was last seen in Augusta, Ga., driving a different Chevy Malibu with a Georgia license plate number of XJH246, Miramar Police said.

Surveillance video from Sunday morning showed the white Malibu driving off shortly after 2 a.m. after hitting Ortega Martinez, debris from the car trailing behind.

Authorities ask anyone with information about Lewis’ whereabouts to call Miramar Police at 954-602-4000.
