ATLANTA -- Atlanta police said a 55-year-old Roswell man accused of child molestation was found dead in his cell at the Fulton County Jail on Saturday of a possible suicide.

According to Atlanta Police Officer Lisa Bender, officers responded to the jail Saturday morning and discovered Troy Palmer hanging in a cell. EMS crews pronounced him dead.

The initial investigation by the medical examiner and homicide detectives indicates the scene is consistent with a suicide. The actual cause and manner of death will be determined through an autopsy by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.

Palmer had been charged with two counts of child molestation in September after two victims came forward to tell police they were molested between 2008 and 2012. The victims said the molestations happened at Palmer's home, where he taught piano lessons.

Police said Palmer has taught piano at several music academies over the past 35 years -- including Georgia State University from 1995 to 2000. They said he began teaching music lessons at his Roswell home 13 years ago.

Over the years, investigators said Palmer taught hundreds of students and they believe there may be other victims who were molested.
