Police Investigate Fatal Shooting in Antioch
Police are seeking the public’s help in solving a fatal shooting outside a busy Antioch strip mall Monday.
“It’s so surreal, it’s like I just want this to be a dream,” said Ursala Morgan. "He was at home, I’m at work, I get the phone call.”
Police told her that her fiance, 50-year-old Victor Kennard Coleman, was gunned down in the parking lot of this strip mall at the corner of Delta Fair Road and Gentrytown Drive.
Police say shots were fired at around 2:15 p.m., one of the busiest times of the day. And they said they don’t have a description of the suspect or car witnesses said peeled out of the parking lot.
Authorities hope surveillance cameras will lead to clues.
“I thought it was fireworks, I didn’t know it was gunshots,” said a witness. “We came out and saw someone laying on the ground.”
Morgan said Coleman was known to many in the community.
When he wasn’t working to install solar panels, he would spend his time helping others.
Morgan said he had a big heart, often helping the elderly by opening doors for them and escorting them to their car.
“He goes to church, he’s a dad, he’s a grand dad. We just live a simple life,” she said, adding she’s left alone, not knowing what she will do next or what she will tell his children.
“He’s active in his grand children’s life, what do I say to them what do I say to the children?” said Morgan.
Police ask anyone with information contact the police department.
