Police investigating drowning on Mercer Lake

ONEIDA COUNTY, Wis. (WSAW) - The Minocqua Police Department is investigating a drowning on Mercer Lake.

Police were called to Mercer Lake around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. According to witnesses, Maxwell Pipp, 18, of Ixonia, WI had been on a pontoon boat with friends when he decided to go swimming. While swimming, Pipp was holding onto a rope that was attached to the boat and was being towed around the lake. He went under the water and did not surface for several minutes when witnesses called 911. According to the Minocqua Police Department, he was not wearing a lifejacket.

The incident is still under investigation. The Minocqua Police Department was assisted by the Woodruff Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Minocqua Fire Department and EMS, Oneida County Dive Team, Newbold Fire and Rescue, Lincoln County Dive Team, Wisconsin DNR, and the Oneida County Medical Examiner.
