Police investigating shooting that involved an officer
Pennsylvania State Police and the Berks County District Attorney's Office are investigating a deadly shooting that involved an officer Thursday night.
Troopers said they were notified that a 53-year-old Philadelphia man suspected in a double homicide in New Jersey on Monday may be in the area. The man also allegedly shot two people sitting on a porch in Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon.
Sign up for our NewslettersThe man was spotted in Wyomissing Borough around 8 p.m., and police tried to pull his vehicle over. There was a short pursuit after he refused to stop, state police said.
State police said the man then drove into the backyard of a home in the 900 block of Spring Street, where his vehicle became disabled.
According to state police, the man had a rifle and failed to obey their commands, so officers from multiple departments opened fire.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
