Police are looking for a group of people who authorities say shot an apartment security guard Friday in Red Bird.

Dallas police were notified of a shooting around 11:45 p.m. at an apartment complex parking lot in the 8000 block of Leigh Ann Drive, police said. Officers found a 71-year-old security guard who had been shot in the hand, police said.

Security camera footage shared by police Wednesday showed multiple men running through the parking lot that night.

The guard, who was armed and in uniform, said five people tried to take his weapon, according to police. The guard told officers that a member of the group shot him after he resisted. The group then ran from the apartment complex, according to police.

The guard was taken to a hospital to be treated, police said. His injuries were not life-threatening, authorities said.

Police said they do not believe that the men were trying to break into any of the buildings in the complex.

Anyone who has information regarding the incident can contact Detective Ortiz at 214-671-4310 or email jose.ortizvives@dpd.ci.dallas.tx.us.
