SAN ANTONIO - On Wednesday, January 4th, a suspect pointed a gun at officers when police were investigating a suspicious call from someone near a motel.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. near the 1400 block of Culebra Road on San Antonio's North Side.

Police say they received a call that a man who looked to be intoxicated and holding a firearm was near the corner strip of Culebra Road and was hiding at a nearby motel. When authorities arrived, they were told that the man was in a room on the second floor of the motel.

One of the officers went upstairs to talk with the man and knocked on the motel room door. The suspect opened the door and pointed a gun toward the officer.

Both of the officers upstairs immediately saw the suspect with the gun and began shooting at him, striking him multiple times. It was later determined that the gun was identified as a BB gun.

Jose Iruegas, 44, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and has been charged with two counts of terroristic threats against a peace officer. No one else was injured during the shooting.

As with all officer-involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the incident.
