Police search for driver who hit, killed elderly Volusia man before leaving scene

Daytona Beach police are looking for a driver who they say hit and killed a 77-year-old man Thursday night.
Sign up for our NewslettersPolice say the victim, identified as Aldred Rawling Fleming, was crossing Mason Avenue along an unmarked section of the road when he was struck by the front of a dark-colored sedan heading west. This happened just after 8 p.m.

An officer who was nearby left his car to give aid to Fleming. The officer said he noticed the car stop for a moment at the intersection of Mason Avenue and Lewis Drive before driving away.
Fleming was transported to the hospital where he died.
