Police searching for four people suspected of thefts at two Lowe's stores
One man is under arrest and Portland police are searching for four others after an incident at two Lowe's stores Tuesday morning, in which more than $10,000 worth of merchandise was stolen.
Police say they were searching for a white Toyota 4Runner with Pennsylvania license plates, which had reportedly been involved in a theft at the Lowe's store in Brunswick earlier in the morning.
Sign up for our NewslettersWhen police saw the car at the Lowe's store on Brighton Avenue in Portland, the five suspects allegedly left the store with what was later determined to be $8,600 worth of stolen merchandise and got into the car.
Officers tried to stop the car, but within a minute of leaving the parking lot, the 4Runner had crashed into two different cars near the intersection of Brighton Avenue and Machigonne Street.
As the five suspects got out of the wrecked car, officers were able to apprehend one of them, while the others, described as black males, ran off.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact Portland police.
One person in the two cars was brought to Maine Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
