When police saw the car at the Lowe's store on Brighton Avenue in Portland, the five suspects allegedly left the store with what was later determined to be $8,600 worth of stolen merchandise and got into the car.

Officers tried to stop the car, but within a minute of leaving the parking lot, the 4Runner had crashed into two different cars near the intersection of Brighton Avenue and Machigonne Street.

As the five suspects got out of the wrecked car, officers were able to apprehend one of them, while the others, described as black males, ran off.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact Portland police.

One person in the two cars was brought to Maine Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
